Surface hardening & carburizing

SURFACE HARDENUNG : this is the process f heat treatment in which the surface layers of metal are hardened to a certain depth (skin depth) while the core is make relatively soft . Uts differs from case hardening in the way of chemical composition of surface change CARBURIZING: most widely used for case hardened to steel . Carried out on low carbon steel fron 0.10% to 0.25% carbon a(steel called as carburized steel. Carburizing carried temprature: usually 900-930°C Carbon in surface : 0.7-0.9% Note-> Basically carbun is diffused to steel by heating above the temprature in austenite. Types of carburizing: 1peck 2.liquid 3. Gas carburized. Application- Bearings,gears,camshaft etc.
